Olivier Tallec was born in Brittany in 1970. After graduating from the Ecole Supérieure d'Art graphique in Paris he worked in advertising as a graphic designer, after which he devoted himself to illustration. Since then he has done numerous illustrations for newspapers and magazines and has illustrated over 50 books for children. He's fascinated by textiles and by all forms of popular culture. An avid traveler, he divides his time between Paris, where he lives, and far-flung adventures. November 2008 brought him to both Chicago and San Francisco, where he visited schools and promoted his books.
Jean-Pierre Siméon is a poet, novelist and dramatist. He is a professor of modern languages and literature who has worked prodigiously in the field of poetry. He has published regularly since 1984 and has received the Antonin Artaud Prize (1984), the Guillaime Apollinaire Prize (1994)and the Max Jacob Prize (2006). He also has participated in film and theater festivals. This Is A Poem that Heals Fish is his second book for children.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2024Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis book is very simple in text, includes lovely pictures and serves as a lesson in how to write a poem without following a bunch of preset constrictions. If nothing else, perhaps this book will give the reader or listener an opportunity to see poetry from another perspective.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2022Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI loved this book because it's urban and quirky and incredibly imaginative. A little boy needs to know what a poem is, in order to heal his pet fish. First he looks in the kitchen cupboard, but it's not the place to find a poem. So, he goes out into the world and starts asking other people "what is a poem?" The sum of all the answers he receives is a real poem, not some self-conscious contraption made up of rhyming tricks. I would highly recommend it for teaching purposes in school, for home schooling, or to generate ideas for other poems as well.

The reviewer with concerns that would be confusing to young children underestimates the enormous power of imagination that most young children possess before we squelch it with traditional education
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2017Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI purchased this book after reading the beautiful review on BrainPickings. As a writer gently attempting to introduce poetry to my 5-year old son, I fell in love immediately. It's so special, in fact, that I'm saving it for Christmas. But that hasn't stopped me from sneaking into my hiding place and reading it myself several times! Lovely pictures, poetic writing, and a child's earnest curiosity about what a poem truly is makes for a gem of a story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2018Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseA sweet premise-what is a poem. Every one has a different idea of what makes a poem. It may be a little abstract for my five year-old grandson but my desire is for him to be as creative with words and feelings as he is with his drawings.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2011Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI randomly picked up this book at the library and it was such a hit that I bought a copy. The images are lovely and the text is like the best of poems. The story does a fantastic job of communicating the power of poetry to children. Even my sister, a high school English teacher, praised it and will share it with her classes.
A fantastic introduction to poetry for children!

5.0 out of 5 stars For children and adults
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseA beautifully illustrated and written book for children and adults. Tracking one down is challenging, as it appears to be out of print and the second hand/book deposity price seems to yoyo between the entirely reasonable £12 mark and the jaw dropping several hundred pounds. Worth the wait though

5.0 out of 5 stars Poetisch und wundervoll

Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseWhat a great book! It really explains poetry with its own poetry. Not sure who enjoys it most me or my niece!
